Our Veg

... are grown in a 3 acre walled garden in South Shropshire as part of a mixed progressive organic farm. We grow a huge variety of vegetables, focussing on soil health,  great flavour and high nutritional density. We use a no-dig method to avoid disturbing the soil biome which is as important as our gut biome! We make our own biodynamic preparations, biological amendments and compost. We grow lots of medicinal plants for the soil and companion plants for our crops, and we love having cut flowers to attract pollinators and predatory insects to keep the pests at bay.

Being certified organic we do not use herbicides, fungicides or chemical fertilisers.

How it all began

The walled garden had been neglected for more than 10 years until Kate took it on in 2021.

Kate Gatacre, our head grower, is studying soil biology and will be overseeing a large scale composting operation on the farm, which will make our soil even better.

We believe that good soil health = good plant health = delicious vegetables and that our approach can not only produce fantastic produce but can add to biodiversity and lock away carbon in our soil.

Most of all, we love producing spectacularly delicious and beautiful crops – and we love trying new varieties and discovering old ones, seeking out heritage beans in French and Italian markets, or going crazy with more than 50 tomato varieties in our polytunnel. As a former private chef, Kate gets a bit overexcited when ordering seed!

We aim to not only provide good vegetables, but also to work with the local communities to increase the availability of really healthy and delicious food.
